But even if you should suffer for the sake of righteousness, you are blessed. And do not fear their intimidation, and do not be troubled, but sanctify Christ as Lord in your hearts, always being ready to make a defense to everyone who asks you to give an account for the hope that is in you yet with gentleness and reverence; and keep a good conscience so that in the thing in which you are slandered, those who revile your good behavior in Christ will be put to shame.  1 Peter 3: 14-16

Feeding on the Lord: So Much More Than a Metaphor

Written by

Hunger. It’s one of the most basic of human desires. And in the Bible, it is one of the most important concepts related to salvation, faith, and one’s experience with God.

Physically, hunger and our attempts to fill our stomachs are experiences that unite all mankind. While...

My guess is that you’ve probably overheard some variation of this question before. Perhaps you’ve been on the receiving end. The situation often unfolds like this – God exposes...

Raising the Pastors Kids

Written by

For almost a year, I’ve been taking my kids swimming after school once a week. No, I didn’t enroll them in lessons like a good suburban mom. I could barely justify adding the gym membership to our monthly expenses, much less private lessons for four kids. Instead, I decided just to go...

10 Things You Should Know about the Ten Commandments

Written by

1. Moses never actually refers to them as the “ten commandments.”

Exodus 20:1–2 introduces one of the most famous sections in the Bible—indeed, one of the most important pieces of religious literature in the whole world—the Ten Commandments. Oddly enough, they are never...

Why Are All My Friendships So Shallow?

Written by

It was my first time at this church’s Bible study, and I was sitting with a group of strangers, listening to them talk and pray for each other, awaiting my turn, when it hit me: I didn’t have many real friendships. I had been having girls’ nights and spending time with several...

The Patience of God

Written by

2 Peter 3:15-16, “15 And count the patience of our Lord as salvation, just as our beloved brother Paul also wrote to you according to the wisdom given him, 16 as he does in all his letters when he speaks in them of these matters. There are some things in...

Be Diligent

Written by

2 Peter 3:14, “Therefore, beloved, since you are waiting for these, be diligent to be found by him without spot or blemish, and at peace.”

I do not think that there is a better motivational verse for godly living than 2 Peter 3:14. The main reason I think this is due to the way that...

The Ten Commandments – Kevin DeYoung

What Are You Waiting for?

Written by
